Is Dating Dead?

This past week the cover of USA Today ran a story called, "Is Dating Dead?"  The article discussed the growing trend amoung college students "hooking up" versus going on actual dates.  I have my own theory on this subject, especially for dating in San Francisco.  If you haven't already noticed, San Francisco is an expensive city to live in.  I have heard many men complain at what it costs to date actively in the city.

One man I know actually gave up on the idea of dating and decided to just hit the bars late at night to see who he could pick up.  He said, matter of factly, it seemed easier and cheaper then doing the whole "dating thing."  This man also confessed that he wished he had the self-confidence to be more real with women and find someone who accepts him unconditionally.  On the other side, I have met women who sleep with men too quickly before they have any real connection.  At first, they say that they are happy to fool around, yet break down crying when the he doesnt want a relationship after a few months.  My theory is that people have become disconnected from themselves, thus disconnected from others.

We are all moving so fast that it is difficult feel ourselves and reflect on the direction of our lives.  Where our attention goes our energy follows.  This is your precious life energy and what do you want to create?  For example, if your really wanting to meet the one, yet dating unavailable people you are disconnecting from your true desire.  You are allowing your energy get distracted and get a momentary fix.

Whether your "hooking up" or "fooling around" or whatever like to call your sexual activity, it is important to love and respect yourself.   This means developing self awareness, emotional intelligence, connection to body, and spiritually grounded.  Spiritually grounded means a willingness to consider that which exists beyond youreself.  Emotions, thoughts, and our bodies are constantly changing moment to moment.  See inside yourself if you can find a deeper knowing that goes beyond flucuating wants and desires.  If you can find this source you will never be disconnected.
